Savanna
currently
attends Somerset Community College full-time majoring in Education. Savanna is
also the 19 year old daughter of Pastor Jerry and Sister Kim Lewis. She is a shining example and mentor to all the children at
FCF. They lovingly refer to her as Sissy Savanna! Savanna has a deep love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Realizing it is all about him, and the only thing we can offer him is our praise. She was saved at a very young age and God’s anointing has always been evident in her ministry. At the tender age of 6 or 7 when she began singing during church services, the anointing radiated as she sang. Standing in a chair, singing, “There’s Somebody Out There”, the altars would fill and lives were changed.
Today, that same anointing is fresh and new every time she delivers what God has given her for that service. Savanna has a rich heritage of love for the Lord and His work. Papaw Don Parrett was a charter member and deacon at Seven Pines Pentecostal Church in Annville, KY. Her Uncle, Donnie Parrett is a Pastor, and cousin Brad (Donnie’s son) is a minister. Pastor Jerry’s dad, John Lewis was also an evangelist for many years, delivering the gospel message throughout Jackson, Laurel, Clay and other counties in Kentucky. She ever draws strength from Mamaw’s Betty and Dorothy and other family members who are faithful Christians and prayer warriors. Many prophecies have gone forth over the years at
FCF. Our members and congregation see them come to pass.
Deron currently teaches Coal
Mine safety classes in SE Kentucky. Deron is a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University earning a BBA in Business Management and currently working toward a certification to teach Elementary Education K – 5.
Deron was raised in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky where gospel music and the Pentecostal experience have a rich heritage. At the age of four years old he remembers, “banging” on an old gray upright piano in the family’s living room. Watching others play this instrument in church, Deron said he knew he would soon be playing it because it stirred up something deep inside him. At the age of about nine years old, his Pastor Joe Roy at Molus Pentecostal Church would get him to play during the offering. That insatiable moment caused Deron to practice “with all his might” and before long was filling in for absent piano players in Sunday afternoon services.
Within a couple years the church changed pastors bringing Thea O. Carter onto the scene. Pastor Carter believed in promoting young people who showed initiative and Deron was one that Pastor Carter encouraged. He remembers one service when Pastor Carter told him to stay at the piano while he preached the Word and to play something while he preached. It wasn’t a Hammond B-3, but Deron played that Baldwin piano as what would be the beginning of preaching music for the church. Early influences including Jimmy Swaggart and Rev. Tommy Bates. Deron would stand behind Rev. Bates and watch in utter amazement as he made that Baldwin Hamilton upright piano emanate with sounds he never knew were in it. And, he assuredly knew that he, too, would soon (with more hard practice) be learning to play like Tommy.
Deron grew in knowledge of not only music, but also in the understanding of allowing the Holy Spirit to utilize his talent to accentuate the equally anointed singing that filled that little country church. Deron has logged an unimaginable number of hours of playing music over the years. Long hard work has produced a maturity now seen in his various styles of music that now seem to come easy. That once was not so. For him to now hear a song and to almost instantly recognize every key by ear, and begin to play along with it, is the result of what was stirred up inside a four-year-old child so many years ago. Ask him where this talent comes from and Deron will repeat the words of prophecy that came forth to him, “The Lord God, even the Shepherd of my soul, has wrought it into my life; and it is Him and not me that does this!”
Deron’s sister, Nannie Adams is responsible to a huge degree for patiently teaching her seven-year-old brother the chords on the piano. The first song she taught him was from the Chuck Wagon Gang’s songbook, “If You Believe” in the key of E. Deron did believe! Now, as music director at
FCF he intends to minister as the Holy Spirit leads, and also to reveal the talents that may be hidden in others.
